Auto Insurance can be very expensive even without having any traffic tickets or moving violations. Therefore it is imperative to drive carefully and obey all applicable driving laws. Driving like this will ensure a police officer has no reason to pull you over and issue a citation.
You may be wondering why some insurance carriers penalize people (increase premium) due to traffic violations for which a fine has already been assessed. Your insurance company is not interested in punishing you or passing judgement. They are only concerned about the underwriting process which determines the rate you pay for car insurance. To the company if you receive a traffic ticket or moving violation you are more of a risk and therefore could see an increased premium. Companies have to balance the risk verse reward ratio while determining whether or not you are more likely to be involved in a collision or accident. In simple terms, claims are bad for the company and sometimes cause huge payouts. Showing a company you are a responsible driver (by having a clean driving record) helps them determine a rate for you that is lower. Keep in mind the rating process is on a case by case scenario. Each driver has a unique driving history and is therefore rated individually. The team that decides the rate for you is called an “Underwriting Team”. The underwriting team usually possesses years of experience and exhibits qualities such as professionalism and fairness.
Drunk driving is a crime and will definitely raise your auto insurance premiums. These drivers are required to obtain Florida FR44 car insurance. The amount of the increase will be far steeper when compared to a broken tail light or other minor infraction. Speeding is also against the law and will raise your premium. There is a rate difference between speeding 20 miles over the limit (possibly reckless driving) and speeding 5 miles over the limit. The rates are decided based on how many, how often, and what types of infractions are incurred. Tickets and accidents happen with all types of vehicles and the same process of examining and reviewing histories applies to everything you may drive from motorcycles and trucks to boats and Rv’s.
