Find the Insurance Company for a Florida Vehicle Involved in a Crash

If you’ve been in an accident with a Florida-registered vehicle and need to find out which insurance company covers that vehicle, the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) can help.

To request this information, you will need:

A copy of the accident report

Your name

Your mailing address

You can send your request by:

Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles Bureau of Financial Responsibility 2900 Apalachee Parkway, Mail Stop 98 Tallahassee, FL 32399

Why This Matters

When Florida State Troopers complete accident reports, they often list only the policy number, not the insurance company’s name. Sometimes the report may even say “Florida Auto Insurance” in a way that makes accident victims believe that is the actual insurance company.

Unfortunately, there is no company named Florida Auto Insurance. This confusion leads many people to search online and mistakenly contact our agency, Florida Auto Plus Insurance, thinking we are the insurer.

If you are in this situation, the only way to correctly identify the insurance company is to follow the DHSMV process above.
